Our Renewed Purpose

Fueling 2SLGBTQI+ Communities with Tools and Resources to Unleash Their Full Potential.

Our Story

ILGA-North America and the Caribbean (ILGA-NAC) evolved from ILGA-North America (ILGA-NA), established in 2016. Initially focused on North America, it became increasingly apparent that the unique cultural, contextual, and linguistic needs of the Caribbean were not being fully addressed under the broader umbrella of Latin America and the Caribbean (ILGA-LAC).

Responding to this gap, ILGA-NA undertook a strategic re-evaluation to enhance its focus and effectiveness in these regions. The 2021 rebranding to ILGA-NAC represented more than a name change; it signified a shift in operational focus and strategic planning.

The aim was to create a more tailored advocacy and support framework that respects and addresses the specific challenges faced by 2SLGBTQI+ communities in both North America and the Caribbean. This transition strengthens ILGA-NAC’s capacity to champion the rights and well-being of 2SLGBTQI+ individuals across a broader and more diverse geographic area, ensuring inclusive and effective advocacy efforts.

Who We Are

ILGA-North America and the Caribbean envisions a region where the lives and rights of 2SLGBTQI+ communities are supported, protected, and celebrated. As a diverse and inclusive collective, we will uplift each other while breaking down the barriers of injustice and discrimination.

To harness the collective strengths of our members and allies, amplifying achievements made in eradicating injustice and discrimination while advocating for the rights, freedom, and well-being of gender-diverse communities at societal and institutional levels, and ensuring availability and access to technical and financial resources.

Collaboration: We thrive on the collective power of our network, believing that together, we can achieve more than any of us could alone. This collaborative spirit extends through every layer of our work, from local community actions to global advocacy efforts.

Transparency: We are committed to openness and honesty in all our endeavors. By being transparent, we foster trust and accountability, ensuring that our stakeholders are well-informed and involved in our processes and decisions.

Inclusivity: We embrace and celebrate diversity, recognizing that a truly inclusive approach is crucial for understanding and addressing the varied needs and experiences within our communities. Our inclusivity drives us to be mindful and respectful of all identities and experiences.

Equity: Fundamental to our mission is our commitment to equity. We actively work to eliminate disparities and to ensure fair treatment, opportunities, and outcomes for all, especially those who have been historically marginalized.

Sustainability: Focused on the future, we aim to ensure the sustainability of our impacts and initiatives. We strategically manage resources to maintain and expand our efforts, striving for lasting change that transcends our immediate reach.
